Current certification documents

This page contains the new (English) documents for certification of biomass for energy applications and biobased products, as approved by the EC for Revised Directive (EU) 2018/2001 (Renewable Energy Directive [RED III]) and the supplementary Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/996 on rules to verify sustainability and greenhouse gas emissions saving criteria and low indirect land-use change-risk criteria of 14 June 2022.

Below are the versions of the scheme documents including the recent changes and corrections as they were included in the Interpretation document RED III + corrections. This interpretation document is hereby withdrawn and the versions below are applicable immediately.

Clarification
The certification system aims to minimize differences in interpretation. In case of interpretation issues, the Committee of Experts establishes the interpretation for the requirement in question and publishes it on this website. NEN SCHEME MANAGEMENT MANUAL

General procedures
This scheme management manual describes the procedure for the development and management of schemes by NEN. The procedures of NEN for developing and managing schemes are aligned with the requirements applied by accreditation bodies associated with the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and European cooperation for Accreditation (EA).
