On 11 May 2026, the Better Biomass Committee of Experts (CoE) adopted the ‘REDIII Level A risicobeoordeling voor het Nederlandse bos’ (hereinafter: the Level A assessment). Stichting Probos carried out this risk assessment against the sustainable forest management requirements set out in Article 29(6) of RED III. Stichting Probos is a Dutch non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting and developing knowledge on sustainable forest management and forest expansion. The Level A assessment evaluates, at national level, the extent to which Dutch legislation and regulations meet the requirements of Article 29(6) of RED III.
Not all requirements can be fully addressed at national level. Therefore, Probos additionally developed the ‘RED III Handelingsperspectief voor oogst van bosbiomassa in Nederland’ (hereinafter: the Handreiking). For those RED III requirements that are not sufficiently addressed by the Level A assessment, the Handreiking explains how compliance can be assessed at the level of the sourcing area. The Better Biomass CoE adopted the Handreiking on 17 August 2026.
